The Triad Amateur Players Tour was at Sapona Ridge, Lexington NC, Saturday Apr 6. Cool and windy, devilish, as the wind seemed to be in the way on every hole. Greens fast. The course is removing ALOT if very large trees, plied off in the rough, and so it looks as though they have delayed any fairway grass restoration until wood and stump removal. I had several fairway short off of dirt.

Played ok, again not up to my standard. Scores were very good to poor, some players figured things out.

The 17th was playing long from the director – selected tees,

It doesn’t look like much, but it is a long hole into the wind, Three of us laid up from our second shots. The hole, at the slight bend to the right, goes pretty sharply downhill and the fast winter grass provided too much roll: three balls in the water. Should have laid up with a lob wedge, crazy.

When Sapona completes tree cleanup and fairway restoration, it will be a different place and fun to play.
